What student population does Jenks Sport Medicine serve?

The Jenks Sports Medicine Department is available to Jenks Public School student-athletes, grades 7-12. Student-athletes are defined as students enrolled in Jenks Public Schools that participate in OSSAA sanctioned sports.

 

What sports medicine services are available to student-athletes in the Sharp Center?

As a part of the health care team, services provided by athletic trainers include injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

 

Why are athletic trainers critical for athletic departments and programs?

Athletic trainers ensure that the student athletes are properly cared for and have a safe environment to participate in sports and extracurricular activities. While athletic trainers cannot eliminate the inherent risk of injury in sports, they can help reduce the incidence and severity when injuries do occur. Athletic trainers also provide significant cost savings and reduce time loss for parents and schools.

 

What type of conditions are athletic trainers experienced to treat?

  • Orthopedic injuries

  • Concussion

  • Heat stroke and other heat illnesses

  • Sudden cardiac arrest and other cardiac emergencies

  • Eating disorders

  • Infectious diseases

  • Diabetic episodes

  • Exertional sickling

  • Early onset osteoarthritis

How does a student-athlete set up an appointment with an athletic trainer?

During the school year, the Sharp Athletic Training Facility is typically open 1 hour before school starts (8:15 PM-9:15 AM) and again during athletic period until 1 hour after school ends (3:00 PM-5:00 PM). Student athletes should not receive treatment during the school day unless previous arrangements have been made with the athletic training staff.

 

How do I become a Sports Medicine Aide (10th – 12th grade only)?

Application to become a Sports Medicine Aide should be submitted prior to enrollment during the Spring semester. Contact one of the athletic trainers for application information at sports.medicine@jenksps.org.
